A Community-Supported school
Just as community organizations like churches and clubs are funded by members who give willingly to support their efforts, Marigold Nature School exists because members of our community, both local and global, make it happen. We work collaboratively and pool our resources (stuff, time, and money) to co-create Marigold Nature School. As a collaborative school, accessibility is a top priority for us. The goal is a tuition-free school that uses the gift economy model to support the work of families, facilitators, and administrators, who give their time and energy as a gift to our community.
It takes a lot of time and energy to create a school, and much of that requires money.
Our biggest need right now is for a piece of land and a building where we can grow our school and provide a self-directed learning community for families in Prince William County, Virginia. We are currently meeting as a forest playgroup three mornings a week in a wooded area located along the Occoquan River in Lake Ridge, Virginia.
Note: We are currently operating without an official building, which means school-aged children who attend must be registered homeschoolers. Registering to homeschool or deferring kindergarten is easy in Virginia! Visit HEAV.org for more info, or contact Rachel at Rachel@marigoldchildrensgarden.com for help with the process.
As a non-profit organization, we do not discriminate on the basis of race, gender, ethnicity, religion, social class, or sexual orientation. We strive to create a diverse learning community!
